Departing from our stables in the village, we trace sandy tracks winding past Dar Sultan (the White Palace)—an 18th-century royal hunting pavilion built by Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah, now romantic and half-submerged beneath golden dunes. From there, the trail winds out toward Borj El Berod, the Portuguese-Alaouite coastal watchtower standing in the Atlantic surf that inspired the legend of the 'Castle in the Sand.'

Diabat is situated just 3 km south of Essaouira's medina wall. You can easily hail a blue 'petit taxi' from outside Bab Doukkala or Bab Sbaa.
