Unlike a fast-moving trail ride where horses must maintain a marching formation, our dedicated 1.5-hour photoshoot session is tailored specifically for still photography and cinematic video. You dictate the pace. Whether you are capturing portrait stills, dynamic slow-motion video of horses trotting along the tide line, or romantic sunset silhouettes, we allow generous time to frame shots, adjust lighting, and achieve your creative vision without rush.
Handling spirited, noble horses requires skilled equestrian horsemanship so you can pose comfortably and safely without stress. Brahim or a senior stable hand accompanies you for the entire session. Your handler positions the horse at the most flattering angle relative to the sun, keeps the horse's ears attentively perked forward, and holds the lead line just out of frame when you want standalone photos beside the horse.
We gladly accommodate outfit changes, wardrobe styling (flowing dresses, linen resort wear, or traditional Moroccan djellabas and burnooses), and all camera formats—from high-end DSLRs and mirrorless rigs to iPhones and cinematic gimbals. If you are traveling solo without a photographer, Brahim is skilled at capturing beautiful smartphone photos and videos for you at no extra cost.

Getting to Diabat Stables
Our stables are located in the peaceful Berber village of Diabat, just 3 km south of Essaouira’s historic medina walls.
- By Petit Taxi: Catch a blue petit taxi from Bab Marrakech or Bab Sbaa. It takes 5 minutes and costs approximately 20–30 DH. Ask for Les Écuries de Diabat.
- Hotel Pickup: We can easily coordinate a local taxi pickup from your riad or hotel entrance upon request on WhatsApp.
- Free Parking: Driving yourself? Free, accessible parking is available directly outside the stables.
What to Wear & Equipment

Does the 400 DH rate include a professional photographer?
The 400 DH (€40) rate covers the exclusive rental of the trained horse, equipment, and a dedicated equestrian handler who positions and calms the horse for your shots. You bring your own camera or hire your own photographer. If you don't have a photographer, Brahim is skilled at capturing beautiful smartphone photos and videos for you at no extra charge, or he can recommend trusted local professional photographers.
Do I need riding experience to book a horse photoshoot?
No riding experience is necessary whatsoever. Many of our photoshoot clients have never ridden a horse before. You can pose standing beside the horse on the sand dunes, hold the reins, or sit comfortably in the saddle while our handler holds the lead rope just out of frame.
What time of day is best for the photoshoot in Essaouira?
The late afternoon starting approximately 90 minutes before sunset is the golden window. During this time, the strong midday sun softens into warm amber light, shadows lengthen beautifully across the dunes, and the ocean sands become a reflective mirror for sunset silhouettes.
Can we do outfit changes during the session?
Yes! We recommend bringing 1 or 2 outfit changes. You can change discretely near the dunes or stables. Neutral linen tones, flowing dresses, and traditional Moroccan burnooses or caftans look particularly striking against the white dunes and Atlantic blue.
